Skhert Story

Behind the brand, behind the scenes, doing our best to keep it real

(That's me talking with our manufacturer.) Before I knew anything about premium fabrics, tech packs, high-quality manufacturing processes, quality control, etc., there was that camouflage Skhert! It was one of the first of dozens of samples we made. I still have them all. I wore that camouflage Skhert to pieces because it inspired me to stay focused and to finish what we started. This picture was never supposed to see daylight, but I'm sentimental like that. Honestly, I decided that if we're going to last on this journey, then we'll have to laugh some. If Skhert inspires you even a little, I hope that it's a journey you'll take with us.

Skhert (the "why")

"Cover your butt." It was a really simple instruction the Lord gave me about eight years ago. So, I got busy obeying. And between my combination of oversized shirts, jackets, and sweaters tied around my waist, I was covered... but not "cute"
in my estimation. For a couple of years, I searched for a stylish solution but didn't find one. That's how and why I created Skhert.

Like many women, I enjoy wearing leggings. Whether working from home, running errands, or getting a quick walk in, leggings just work. They're comfortable, they're forgiving, but they're not always appropriate or fashionable. So, in designing Skhert, I wanted to elevate the look and versatility of leggings and other pants like jeggings, shorts, etc.

In the process, I talked to several women in my life -- some older, some younger -- and discovered -- which I already suspected -- that many do not wear leggings because they don't like feeling "exposed." However, many said they definitely would wear leggings -- or consider wearing them -- if a product like Skhert was available.

That's the short story on how Skhert got started. We're hoping that our story resonates with women, and we believe it will. Prayerfully, Skhert will become a cheerful, fun, accessory in your wardrobe that gives you lots of styling options in your leggings, jeggings, shorts and other pants.

Cheer up your bottoms! (the "double")

Our brand tagline has a double meaning. The first speaks to what we believe Skhert will do for your leggings and other "pants" or "bottoms" and that's to make them more versatile and fun to wear, so more cheerful. The second meaning is rooted in my work as an encourager of women who all too often feel at the bottom in their personal and professional lives.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

When my mother (business partner and brand co-owner) came up with our 'Cheer up your bottoms' tagline, I thought she was being sassy. Looking back, I believe that God inspired her. Later she would tell me that when the phrase came to her, it was so funny that she almost didn't share it. I'm glad she did!
